Welcome to the Disabled People's Organisations (DPO) Coalition

*Our website is a work in progress. There are more features to come, and these will be added in the coming months. We welcome your feedback.

The DPO Coalition’s vision is: “Full achievement of Disability Rights equity in Aotearoa New Zealand”.

The DPO Coalition is a coalition of seven disabled people's organisations (DPOs). We welcome other DPOs to consider joining us.

Mandated by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (the Disability Convention or UNCRPD) which was ratified by the New Zealand Government in 2008, the DPO Coalition was formally established through its involvement in the Independent Monitoring Mechanism (IMM) by notice in the New Zealand Gazette on October 13, 2011.

The DPO Coalition’s primary role is to increase the collective impact of DPOs to achieve Disability Rights in Aotearoa New Zealand as defined by the UNCRPD and associated treaties and documents.

About our logo and website colour choices

Our logo is an abstract shape with curved green and blue lines forming semicircles that merge at the centre, representing voices and conversations coming together as one.

For our website colours, we have used:

  • Dark indigo purple: it is a deep, muted shade that sits between navy blue and purple, that has a cool, subdued tone, giving it a sophisticated and calming appearance.

  • Fresh mint green: it’s a bright aqua green, leaning slightly toward turquoise. It feels fresh and energetic, similar to tropical waters.

  • Warm coral orange: it is a lively, medium-bright shade that blends soft orange with a hint of pink, creating a warm and inviting tone. It feels energetic and approachable, adding a friendly pop of colour.

  • Soft ivory cream: it’s a very pale, almost white shade with a warm, slightly peach undertone, giving it a gentle and comforting feel. It evokes a sense of calm and subtle warmth, like lightly sunlit parchment.
